Moonee Valley District Survival Camp

Survival Camp is for Scouts at Explorer and Adventurer levels and is held in the Castlemaine area, Saturday 24th – Monday 26th September.

It is a camp that will test your team work and Scout outdoor skills such as shelter building, food gathering, navigation and first aid.

Scouts will have only what is in their hike packs (there are minimum requirements), they do not have access to tents (there is an emergency shelter contingency) and only minimal food rations and cooking utensils (provided by the camp leader).

It is a requirement of this camp that the scouts, and their parents, attend a briefing session at the 2nd Strathmore Scout Hall on Wednesday 14th September, from 7 to 9pm.  They must bring their day pack with the following equipment: a raincoat, personal first aid kit including a space blanket, hand sanitiser, sunhat & sunscreen, beanie & gloves, spare socks, dilly bag with unbreakable plate, bowl, mug, spoon, knife & fork. These packs will be checked and handed over to the district leader who will return them to the scout at the start of the hike. Please note this is to be a normal day pack, not an overnight/hike pack.
During the the weekend, scouts will need to wear suitable warm clothes & reasonable waterproofed shoes/boots & bring their cut lunch & full water bottle.  This will be discussed at the briefing.
